German Economy Minister makes surprise visit to Iraq ... for the Games.
Sunday's closing ceremony was an elaborate show with thousands of actors, musicians, acrobats and a fireworks display that equalled those from the opening ceremony more than two weeks ago. International Olympic Chief Jacques Rogge called the games truly exceptional. Germany's Interior Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said in an interview to appear in Monday's Bild newspaper that China opened itself to the world to an extent unimaginable 20 years ago. But he also warned that Beijing does not respect many basic freedoms. Now the spotlight slowly turns to London, that accepted the Olympic flag as hosts of the 2012 Games.
